The Under-Appreciated Rock Band of the Month for February 2011 is THE WANDERERS. Decades before Green Day released their punk rock concept album American Idiot (which found its way to Broadway last year), Dead Boys front man Stiv Bators and his bandmates that were originally in Sham 69 brought a palpable apocalyptic vision to vinyl in 1981. Details are given in my Notes.

Fully half of my lifetime ago, in the same year (1981) that this month’s under appreciated rock band the Wanderers released their album, Mubarak came to power in Egypt and declared a perpetual state of emergency; his awful reign came to an end just yesterday. Once again, I am reminded of how great it is to live in a nation where I have the luxury of worrying about 30-year-old rock bands.
