The Under-Appreciated Rock Band of the Month for December 2010 is THE POPPEES. If you ever wondered what the Beatles might have sounded like if they had stayed together another five years so as to catch the first stirrings of New Wave music, these are your guys. Details are provided, as always, in my Notes.

Holy Boy! While downloading Pop Goes MP3, I checked out your notes on Cilla Black… I’m in love! What, was I asleep those years when all this good music was going on?! It’s catch-up time, folks… give a listen…
(Special thanks to WMWJ for keeping these licks current!)

Hey George, no one can keep up with all of it; there’s just too much. I am going to have to check out Cilla Black’s music myself; I cannot remember seeing that name at all in any of my used record store searches, but she might have been with the Female Vocalists or something. Brian Epstein changed her name from Priscilla White, and can you believe the Cavern Club collection? Hope you have a Merry Christmas! — Martin
P. S. Speaking of under-appreciated (talking about myself now): I just put on AC/DC’s first release outside of Australia, High Voltage. The first track is “It’s a Long Way to the Top If You Want to Rock and Roll”, the song that the kids jammed on with Jack Black at the end of the really cool movie School of Rock from a few years back. Would you believe there are BAGPIPES playing as I write???
