Top 100 Rock ’n Roll Hits of All Time (Various Artists) (1980):  I have numerous collections of early rock and roll songs, and Top 100 Rock ’n Roll Hits of All Time might be my favorite of them all.  Unlike many multiple album collections and box sets, which might have only five songs per side, this five-album collection crams 10 songs onto each side.  I really enjoy the songs on this collection, and I recorded all of the albums onto five cassettes so I could play the music in my car.  Playing all five albums in a row might be a bit much, but the music sounds great one or two discs at a time.  Collections like this are mainly used to create a mood rather than for the individual songs, but I might as well lay out my favorites among Top 100 Rock ’n Roll Hits of All Time:  Fat Domino’s “I’m Walkin’ ”, Duane Eddy’s “Rebel Rouser”, Little Richard’s “Tutti Frutti”, The Angels’ “My Boyfriend’s Back”, Ritchie Valens’ “Donna”, Buddy Holly’s “Peggy Sue”, Bill Haley and His Comets’ “Rock Around the Clock”, Sam Cooke’s “Wonderful World”, Dion and The Belmonts’ “Where or When”, Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode”, the Rays’ “Silhouettes”, Bobby Darin’s “Splish Splash”, the Marcels’ “Blue Moon”, Frankie Ford’s “Sea Cruise”, the Coasters’ “Yakety Yak”, Gene Chandler’s “Duke of Earl”, Danny and the Juniors’ “At the Hop”, the Big Bopper’s “Chantilly Lace”, the Fleetwoods’ “Come Softly to Me”, Dion and the Belmonts’ “Teenager in Love”, Jim Reeves’ “He’ll Have to Go”, the Tokens’ “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, Jerry Lee Lewis’s “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On”, Jerry Butler and the Impressions’ “For Your Precious Love”, Bobby Darin’s “Mack the Knife”, Mickey and Sylvia’s “Love is Strange”, the Diamonds’ “The Stroll”, Little Anthony and the Imperials’ “Tears on My Pillow”, the Drifters’ “There Goes My Baby”, the Platters’ “The Great Pretender”, the Shirelles’ “Will You Love Me Tomorrow”, the Platters’ “The Magic Touch”, Freddy Cannon’s “Palisades Park”, and the Champs’ “Tequila”.  But to some extent, I am just splitting hairs; there is not a single song on this collection that I don’t enjoy hearing, even all of these decades later.
