- A funny thing happened to Thrashing Doves on their way to rock stardom: Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher once praised one of their music videos.

Thrashing Doves – Bedrock Vice (1987): Thrashing Doves are a British alternative rock band with a line-up of Ken Foreman (vocals/guitar), Brian Foreman (keyboards), Ian Button (guitar), Hari Sajjan (bass), and Kevin Sargent (drums). Bedrock Vice is their debut album and features a succession of catchy danceable tunes. A funny thing happened to Thrashing Doves on their way to rock stardom: In 1987, conservative icon Margaret Thatcher, the Tory Prime Minister of Great Britain, appeared on a children’s television show called Saturday Superstore, where she mentioned that she liked one of the music videos made by Thrashing Doves. Apparently, that comment had a significant negative impact on the fortunes of the rock band.
A 2004 article by Alexis Petridis in the left-leaning British newspaper The Guardian on what can happen to musical groups when politicians publicly state that they are fans of their music, refers to “the curse of Thrashing Doves”. My favorites on Bedrock Vice are “Beautiful Imbalance”, “The Grinding Stone (Let Me Climb Your Ladder)”, “Rochdale House”, “Biba’s Basement”, and “Magdalena”.
