The Golden Earrings – Just Ear-Rings (1965): I have a lot of albums by this Dutch band – known throughout most of their long career as Golden Earring – but this is about the only one that has been cleaned up. The Golden Earrings were founded in 1961, the year before the Rolling Stones, and stayed together for 60 years – with the same line-up since 1970 – before breaking up in February 2021 following the diagnosis of vocalist and guitarist George Kooymans with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease, and also that of famed British physicist Stephen Hawking). Just Ear-Rings is their debut album and collects their early singles that have a definite British Invasion flavor. Unfortunately, this album omits the Golden Earrings’ finest song from this period: a B-side called “Chunk of Steel”. You will have to wait for Searching in the Wilderness to get that song!
