The Beat (Various Artists) (1982): This collection of new wave songs still sounds fresh to me and includes smash hits by Duran Duran (“Girls on Film”) and the Go-Go’s (“We Got the Beat”); “I Ran (So Far Away)” by a Flock of Seagulls; and Bow Wow Wow’s cover of the Strangeloves classic “I Want Candy”. Many of the songs were not major hits, however, lending the collection added interest by this point.
