The Greatest Music
Ever Recorded!

John Lee Hooker – Whiskey and Wimmen (1973): John Lee Hooker is one of the better-known blues guitarists, with a distinctive gravelly voice and a primitive style; and he is admired by American and British musicians alike. Hooker’s recording output is nothing short of massive, beginning in the late 1940’s; he often worked with several record labels at the same time. One of his songs was a minor American pop hit, “Boom Boom”; the Animals released a cover version of “Boom Boom” that outsold Hooker’s original while also giving his version a higher profile. His highwater mark in record sales was a double album called Hooker ’n Heat (1971) that John Lee Hooker made with the American blues-rock band Canned Heat.
Whiskey and Wimmen is also a double album, and it presents a wide variety of John Lee Hooker recordings. Several other John Lee Hooker retrospective double albums came out under this title over the years, probably with some variations in the songlist.
