James Brown and His Famous Flames – Live and Lowdown at the Apollo, Vol. 1 (1980): This is a reissue of the legendary concert by James Brown and His Famous Flames at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem on October 24, 1962. It is essentially a replica of the original record with the individual songs not separated on the disc, and with “Please, Please, Please” split onto both sides of the record. None of that detracts from the enjoyment of the best live album that I have ever heard, and James Brown’s moniker as the “Godfather of Soul” remains firmly in place nearly 60 years later.
