Well, here we go again on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. On the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, this coming Wed., we are expecting landfall from Tropical Storm Isaac (which will probably be a Hurricane by this evening). However, Isaac is a lot smaller storm and will probably be mainly a rain event, but what a rain event: Our local TV station says that some areas are likely to get 20 inches of rain.

Hoping you and family stay safe, Martin. I think P’Cola (as it stands now) will def get some wind and rain, but nothing too bad. Poor New Orleans and, again, I hope you will be okay.
Rachel Wagoner
Be careful Uncle Martin. You and Peggy are in our prayers.
Kathy Simpson-Phillips
I sitting here waiting on the rain and wind. Has been very light so far. I hope it moves quickly and goes right on over us… Hope all is well with you Martin.
W Ernie Guyton
after talking to you on the phone, sounds like you two are prepared and ready. I’ll check in after the storm.
Martin Winfree
Thanks for the good wishes, everyone; I think it will be okay. Sure praying so anyhow.
Amy Richardson Murray
Martin—I surely pray you won’t flood bad. Some parts of Charleston received over 7 inches today and most of downtown is closed tonight.

As I said on a later post – so far, so good. I doubt we have had much over ¼ inch of rain so far. But it is definitely on the way!

Martin we got 20 inches here in Florida. The lakes are over flowing.Sunny today, the fish were crossing the streets.Really

Stay safe and dry.

I hope you made it through okay. WE did ok. Had a few trees down and lots of limbs in the yard, but that is okay. Said a prayer and he heard me. So happy he did. I said one for everyone…
Martin Winfree
We did just fine also, Kathy, thanks. I was out in the yard picking up tree limbs and raking up debris from the street, but we were blessed. It was relentless for more than 36 hours, and I can imagine how unnerving that could be if the winds were really strong. Actually it’s pouring down rain again right now!

I am so glad to hear this Martin and Peggy. The waters are reseeding here. But so many are not as lucky,my prayers to all of them.Get them a lot of help.

So far, so good. We’ve seen a little rain and some wind, but no serious weather yet in Biloxi. It’s coming though; we’ve seen a hint already of what it is probably going to be like.
Celeste Lavalle
Some wind, rain here. A few big branches down and debris in yard. Not much else. Hope you’ll be able to say the same when all is said and done!

Okay, the wind is here for sure, and the rain is acting like it is going to be constant from now on. Isaac has arrived at Coastal Biloxi.

You and Peggy stay safe (including any animals you may have!)

Prayers up for y’all !

The wind has been blowing all night (still is), and we have seen a lot of rain; but so far, it looks like we will get through Hurricane Isaac okay. I doubt I will leave the house today and might not tomorrow as well, so it’s a good thing that the U. S. Open is in progress. Best of all, the lights are still on!
Amy Richardson Murray
Martin–I am very happy to hear you didn’t even lose power! 🙂 You certainly deserve a break since Katrina.

It hasn’t really let up all day long – a lot of wind and a lot of rain. We’ve seen tornado warnings, and flash flood warnings (for 8 or 9 counties!); and the tornado watch is pretty much constant. We’re still blessed enough to have power and enough food in the house; we have some limbs down in the yard, but that’s all. According to the Weather Channel, we’ll have “squalls” through 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon; and it doesn’t drop below a 100% chance of rain until 11 p.m. – that’s 30 hours from now!

I remember from my friends in Pensacola that beer and plywood were critical supplies. They didn’t say nuthin about power and food…

every time I checked in on the situation on tv they were focusing on New Orleans with only mentions of MS but no details. Thank you for letting us know how you are doing!

We’ll keep praying!

This morning, there are still tornado warnings and flash flood warnings and actual flooding along the rivers and bays and Gulf, but Hurricane Isaac has finally been downgraded and has moved on – 180 miles west of Biloxi last I heard. Not far enough yet, but it’s a start. It’s still a messy day out there, and I am sure there is more rain coming (it’s still plenty windy). However, the rain bands have gotten thready and are a lot smaller. Isaac was a big enough storm that it would have been trouble even if it never got to Hurricane status (which it did for 24 hours or more). Glad to be past this storm!!!

Yay!

But all that rain did.Stay dry and safe.

Hoping that seeing this post means you made it through Isaac with no problems? I always read your posts re under-appreciated rock bands. I must admit, I’ve never heard of any of them, but enjoy reading what you write. My Bob is a musician. At this point in his life he prefers doing solo gigs. Plays tomorrow at P’Cola Beach on the Pier. Classic rock, blues, some country. Gotta love a man with a guitar!!
Martin Winfree
We came through okay, Celeste; some tree limbs in the yard, but none big enough to even have to break in half. I didn’t know that about Bob; that’s great. I wouldn’t expect you to know any of the under-appreciated rock bands, so I try to talk about other bands and artists also on my way to getting to what little I have been able to find out about the UARB’s. I’m glad you like my posts; I sure enjoy writing them! 🙂

Hurricane Isaac missed us, but it hit a lot of other people down our way. The latest around here are the thousands of nutria corpses (a large rodent that is all over Louisiana now) that have washed up on the beaches. In Harrison County alone, they have already picked up 16 tons of them. Isaac is now drenching the East Coast and is bringing a lot of wind and serious rain chances to the U. S. Open on Long Island, NY. That is some storm!

Hurricane Isaac, Part Deux: Pretty much out of the blue, big thunderstorms started rolling through the area last night, but this morning is when they really hit: Parts of Ocean Springs have already had over 6 inches of rain. Some residents are saying that this flooding is even worse than Isaac itself last week. This is actually a piece of Isaac that slid through Alabama and has landed in the Gulf; it is possible that this could develop into a tropical system again. The main storm is now in the New York area, and it is wreaking havoc as well. Stay tuned.
