Release Data
Hell Bent for Leather was released in 2009 as an LP only (catalogue #LS-001LP) and is evidently the initial release by a French label LS. A logo in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover says “Licorice Schtik” (one of the bands featured on Side 2); “LS” is evidently an abbreviation for this band name.
Notes on the Tracks
This album collects a cross-section of the numerous guises and personalities that Milan the Leather Boy took on as a recording artist (on Side A, the “Leather Boy Side”), along with the equally varied work that he did as a songwriter and producer (on Side B, the “Flower Child Side”) that ranges from his highest charting success with pop singer Lou Christie, to the girl group the Chanters, to the bubblegum pop band Ice Cream, to the psychedelic rock band the Head Shop.
Quoting from the liner notes: “From his earliest incarnation in the record industry as an Xmas twister, the enigmatic Milan has changed his name and reinvented himself several times: a teen idol with a cute hairdo and a preppy look, a garage gonzo savage, an all dressed-in-black biker stud, a psychedelic screamer in love with satellite sounds, and other characters known or waiting to be discovered. One thing is for sure, few people can claim so many identities in less than a decade.”[1]
