A lot of my early Bob Dylan albums have just surfaced from the ones I have cleaned up from Katrina, and I just played Another Side of Bob Dylan for the first time in what must be 25 years or more. That album is so much more wonderful than I remembered; it included several songs that I had somehow associated in my mind with the Dylan bootleg albums that had captured my attention more than his regular albums. The record includes his original versions of two songs that became hits for others, “All I Really Want to Do” (both Sonny & Cher and the Byrds released their own versions at about the same time) and “It Ain’t Me Babe” (a hit for the Turtles, though many tried their hand at it). Other highlights are “Chimes of Freedom”, “My Back Pages” and “Ballad in Plain D”, though all of the songs are great. What a treat that was to start the work week after Thanksgiving!
