What a great night at the 2013 Grammys last night, a better than average outing from the beginning, with Taylor Swift’s stylistic live perfomance of “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” starting things off. Ed Sheeran with Elton John, Fun, the Mumford Brothers, Justin Timberlake, Maroon 5 with Alicia Keys, and a subdued but smoking Rihanna were also standouts for me. Including Dan Auerbach’s award as Producer of the Year (Non-Classical), the Black Keys led the field with four awards and gave a thrilling performance with the accompaniment of Dr. John and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Best I could tell, no one expected that; the Black Keys had already won three Grammys at the 2011 award show.

Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys won the 2013 Grammy for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical for three albums and one single; besides his own band’s album, El Camino, they included a new album, Locked Down by Dr. John, who performed with the band along with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at the Grammy award ceremony last night. The other two were the album Shakedown and the single “Savage” by the January 2011 Under-Appreciated Rock Band of the Month, Hacienda. Maybe Hacienda won’t be so under-appreciated after this!
